Project DAWN

Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) is a network of overdose reversal medication distribution programs that provide overdose education and overdose prevention services. Learn more about overdose reversal medication (ORM).

Naloxone is a medicine that can save some from an overdose by reversing the effects from heroin, fentanyl, or prescription opioid medications. It comes in an easy-to-use nasal and works within a few minutes.

Use naloxone immediately if someone shows signs of opioid overdose:

  • Slow, shallow, or absent breathing
  • Extreme sleepiness or inability to wake
  • Pinpoint pupils
  • Unresponsiveness

Even if you are unsure whether opioids are involved, administer naloxone and call 911.

It is safe to use on anyone, infants to elderly, even if you are not sure they are experiencing an overdose

You should carry Narcan if you or someone close to you:

  • Is struggling with opioid addiction
  • Is taking prescription opioid medication
  • Uses opioids and benzodiazepines together
